Why is the wine cellar housed within a fur storage facility?

The two primary reasons are temperature and security. The facility that we have converted space within has been the home to millions of dollars worth of inventory for over 50 years. There is no safer place in the city other than a bank vault. The other important factor is temperature without fluctuation. The facility has maintained 55ºF for over 50 years and the greatest degree of fluctuation was 3ºF during the 3 day blackout of 2003. Not nearly enough to adversely affect the wine.

I’ve been told that a fur storage facility may not as a suitable place for cellaring wine as a dedicated wine storage facility.

With over 50 years of exact temperature conditions and not a single successful incident of break-in, that’s simply not true. In fact, the security is better at our facility where people can only enter during normal business hours in a fully staffed environment. A self serve concept is less expensive to maintain but no one will be alone in Iron Gate Cellarage at 3:00 am, regardless of whether they “checked in”.

How do you maintain your inventory?

Utilizing proprietary software developed by Fireball Technology Group, Iron Gate Cellarage has a state of the art inventory management system housed on servers that reside offsite and managed 24x7. There is simply no better inventory management system for wine in Canada.

Does Iron Gate pack my cellar for transport?

Iron Gate provides full packing and unpacking services. Our staff will show up at your cellar and individually pack each bottle from your collection. Each case is tagged with a bar coded inventory sticker and, if desired, the contents tracked and uploaded into eCellar for your convenience. This way, if there’s a special bottle or case you want at anytime, simply go online, view your collection, and let us know what you would like to have immediately delivered. When it comes to unpacking, Iron Gate also offers full cellar set-up in your new home.

How safe is the wine transported or shipped?

For transporting wine from your home or office to our cellar we sell specialty boxes that are strength tested for approximately twice the weight of an average case of wine. After packing we seal the cases and carefully load them for immediate delivery into our cellar.

Should you require wine to be shipped by a third party over long distances, we can supply wine shipment cartons as shown below to ensure the contents arrive safely at their new destination.
